We practice trust 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We trust the chairs we sit in, the cars we drive in, the pilots that fly the planes we ride in, and the chefs that prepare our food. So why can it be so difficult when it comes to God? I think there are lot of answers to that. First being, at least for me, that I can’t visually see Him or audibly hear Him. Anybody with me?
This song was written from looking at the story of Elijah. Man, I’ve always been frustrated with this guy. He sees fire literally fall from heaven and then retreats and questions his whole existence. God must have been so frustrated, right?! Wrong. In fact, it is in his doubting that God meets Elijah in the most beautiful of ways. And I think that’s the point. Trust doesn’t always look like calling fire from heaven, sometimes it looks like bringing your doubting self to God and letting him pick up the pieces. In that, we move from just trusting to knowing the person in whom we are putting our trust. And THAT is my prayer for the church and our world, that we would experience the true, strong, good, and near person of God. Because a trust built on that, well I think that’s what they call the Kingdom of God.
